It was my nephew, about three and a half years old. My brother had been teaching him letters, capital A, small a, and so on. A few days later, he took my nephew for a motorcycle ride. My nephew sat in front while they rode to a nearby store, maybe a fifteen minute trip.
As they went around a curve, they saw a dog playing with its puppy. My nephew got excited, pointed at them, and said, “Dad, look, small dog and capital dog.”
The innocence and the way children apply what they learn is so pure. They take new knowledge and use it in the most honest and practical way.
Moments like these remind me how pure a child’s mind is. They see the world simply and honestly. They may not understand everything yet, but the way they connect ideas is so genuine that it teaches us to see life with a softer heart.
